For over 60 years the Schilters have farmed in the Nisqually Valley. Grandpa and Grandma Schilter immigrated from Switzerland and began dairy farming, as well as raising a family. One of their sons, Fred, met and married Patty Deck, whose family farmed across the freeway on what is now known as Nisqually Wildlife Refuge. Fred and Patty began farming the dairy and raised a wonderful family.
Of their five children, Jeff began working on the dairy hand-in-hand with his parents. He married Stephanie Herness and they began a family of their own. The family eventually phased out the dairy and took on a new venture — raising fresh vegetables. As the farm grew, so did the seasons that the farm remained open. We’re now open for 9 months of the year selling hanging baskets and flowers in the spring, fresh produce throughout the summer and fall, and beautiful fresh cut Christmas trees and wreaths in the winter.
